Shorts, Shorts Shorts!
I finished with the muslin version of these shorts, as you can see. I didn't really like how they were poofy so I took them in a little bit. I also have fabric for the shorts along with fabric for the pockets. The problem was that the fabric I wanted to use was sort of transparent. I am going to try lining them, I just hope it doesn't make the fabric a lot stiffer.
I am also working on a muslin fit of a romper. I will try to post a picture or something about that when it's completed.
Next, I am going to sew the final version of the shorts and add the pockets!

Starting to sew
This week I have done several things. I have started to look for fabric to use in my collection.
Also, I now have several patterns that I plan on using in my collection which are for shorts and a romper. I had a pattern for pants, but they weren't the right measurements and they wouldn't fit on my model (My sister).
Earlier in the week, I had the idea of making a bathing suit. I thought this would be a challenge, but fun to try. I think I will save this for more towards the end of the project, because I think it will be hard. I don't want to take up a lot of time working on this and not have enough time. Especially if the bathing suit doesn't work out.
I have started working on a muslin version of the shorts that I would like to make, because I want to see how they fit my model and how I can change them to fit or look nicer. I have not finished them yet. I started them on Friday, but I have just not been doing it because I wasn't quite sure how to sew the crotch of the shorts. I know it's better if I just try, but I have just thinking about how to do it, it's probably very simple. I think I am going to at least try to finish it either today or tomorrow because I want to get an idea of what my real shorts will look like. When I finish them, I'll post a picture.
Next I have to finish the muslin version of my shorts, fit them to my sister, who is going to model my collection, and see if it needs to change. After that, I guess I will start working on real shorts. I am not sure in what order I am going to make these clothes in. I am thinking that I will have ideas along the way, and want to make more, or something new, I don't know. I'm not sure yet.

My Plan
About a week or two ago, my mentor and I came up with a plan for my project. We figured out where the quarter mark, halfway mark and the three-quarters mark will be. I guess that I am already a quarter of the way done! I think that I am going to post another version of this later whenever I have checked off more.

Drawing
This week I have started to work on designing my collection. I first started out with using just blank paper and trying to draw my own Croquis. Although, I learned that it takes some practice and doesn't come so easily to some people (me), I did however get some ideas even if I couldn't express it in the best way yet.
Last weekend, I met with my mentor and I did some drawing on already drawn croquis. I came up with more ideas and used more of the colors in my inspiration board in my designs. I have found that I used asymmetry more than once and didn't realize that it was a pattern until it was pointed out to me. I want to incorporate things that remind me of summer which are flowy things, floral, lots of colors etc.
These are some of the designs that created. I used a floral pattern for the pockets of the shorts that I cut out of a magazine.
My next step is to decide how much more I would like to draw and what I would like to make. I also would like to practice fashion drawing with blank paper and just getting the hang of drawing croquis.

More Inspiration
This is the inspiration board that I created and put on my wall. I had a lot of full-page images that I didn't want to cut, so I hung them up. I am sure now that I want my collection to be summer clothes. I found that a lot of things I liked involved the beach, water or sunshine which to me, means summer. I definitely want my collection to consist of that.

Inspiration Time
Lately I have just focused on what my collection will look like. I thought about who I will be designing for and when these clothes will be worn. I want to make clothes for the summer, since that is my favorite time of the year, and most of the time I like summer clothes the best. To show what I want my collection to feel like, I created an inspiration board on Polyvore.com. I met with my mentor and she helped me come up with a better idea of what I want to do. We made a list of the steps I will have to take to be done with my project and also figured out when I'll be halfway done.
I still have a bunch of images that I found and I haven't done anything with them yet. I am going to create another inspiration board with paper, because I am still unsure of what I want my designs to look like and I'm hoping this will give me a better idea.
I have worked thoughtfully on my project. I worked on my online inspiration board for a while before I published it because I wanted it to look nice.
Next, I am going to create another inspiration board, this time on paper. After that, I am going to start drawing my collection!

Introduction
Hello!
My name is Emily and I am in eighth grade. At my school, a requirement for eighth grade is to create something called an eighth grade challenge project. You get to create the project on whatever you like or are interested in. For this project, you need a mentor to help you out and give guidance/opinion.
I have chosen a project where I am going to design and sew a collection of clothes from start to finish. I thought it would be fun to start a blog and keep a log of what I've been doing.
I have just recently started to work on this and I want to document as much as I can. I am very excited to start working on this and I will begin to write once I start to work more.
